What are the treatments covered by Oral, Maxillofacial Surgery?

Some Commonly Carried Out Operations Regarding Oral, Maxillofacial Surgery are as follows;

  • Tooth Extraction
  • Wisdom Tooth  Extraction
  • Root Apex Resection
  • Sinus Lifting (Uplift)

Tooth Extraction

Generally, the teeth that are very devastated, can no longer be treated, are planned to be extracted in the orthodontic treatment indication, are broken due to trauma and are impacted due to the lack of space in the mouth are decided to be extracted.  Tooth extraction is applied as normal, complicated or surgically.

Wisdom Tooth  Extraction

Nowadays, wisdom tooth are usually extracted due to lack of space in the mouth. Due to this problem, the teeth may be impacted, partially impacted positions. Even if the wisdom teeth are completely erupted, they are sometimes extracted because they are not in the correct position.

Wisdom teeth are the last teeth in the mouth. If there is enough space in your jaw for these teeth, teeth can find space for themselves without having to extracted. Unfortunately this is a rare situation. Usually wisdom teeth need to be extracted and cannot be located in the jaw. Impacted teeth can take place different forms in the mouth. It can be found impacted under the skin or in the bone. They can create many dental problems that are difficult to get better. In bacterial production, the environment formed by the tissues around the tooth leads to infections. Infections are seen in the patient as chewing difficulties and pain. The most important problem is that the affected teeth turn into a tumor or cyst.

As a result, healthy jaw bone and tissues are damaged. Medications given to the affected teeth to examine are insufficient. In early diagnosed teeth, precautions are taken against these problems.

What Is Root Apex Resection?

It is a treatment method that eliminates the problem in the region by surgically cleaning the region and cutting it at a certain amount from the root apex in cases such as tissue damage, lesion, cyst, infection, surrounding the root apex.

Sinus Lifting (Uplift)

There are maxillary sinuses filled with air on the roots of the molar and premolar teeth of the upper jaw. After the loss of teeth, these sinuses tend to grow towards the area where the roots of the teeth are located. Therefore, sufficient bone height required for implant application may be lost. In these cases, the jaw bone is made suitable for implant applications by increasing the bone level with sinus lifting.

How is a sinus lifting performed?

There are maxillary sinuses and air spaces above the upper molar teeth in buccal. Some of the roots of the upper teeth extend into the sinus. A layer of bone remains between the sinus and the mouth. Dental implants are placed in the region where the bone should be thick enough to get support from bone tissue. In cases where the implant cannot be placed, the sinus floor is very thin.

In this case, lift sinus (sinus elevation) is performed and it becomes possible to insert the implant. In this process, the sinus membrane is lifted up in the region where the teeth are removed by entering the sinus are located and the pulvis  at the base of the bone is laid. Depending on the bone height, implants may also be inserted in the same session, or implants may be inserted after 4 months.
